You obviously did not have to take ownership for the mistake, since they were provided by a trusted source. But your willingness to do so spoke volumes about your diligence in safeguarding the reputation of your publication. I firmly believe that a good reputation is more easily lost than gained. You and your publication deserve high praise for your willingness to do the right thing – and unwillingness to take any chances on losing credibility with your readers.
