MADISON, Wis. – The CUNA Mutual Board has added five new directors, and has increased its size from 13 to 14. The five are the following: * Victoria W. Miller, EVP and CFO, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.; * Joseph J. Gasper, CLU, retired president and COO, Nationwide Insurance; * Bert Hash, president and CEO, Municipal Employees CU of Baltimore, Inc.; * William B. Eckhardt, president and CEO, Alaska USAFCU; and * Jeff H. Post, CUNA Mutual's recently named president and CEO. Ralph B. Canterbury, board member since 1982 has retired and Jerald R. Hinrichs, board member since 1993 will retire in June 2005. At CUNA Mutual it's typical for the CEO to serve on the board as Kitchen and most of his predecessors have done. Interestingly, going forward the CUNA Mutual Board will operate with an even number, 14, of board seats. Credit unions typically operate with odd number boards to avoid tie votes. According to CUNA Mutual, a majority vote is required for the board to act. In the event of a tie vote, the action would not pass because it would not have the required majority vote.
