RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Auto Expert, a wholly-owned auto buying/brokering CUSO of Altura CU, has converted to a limited liability corporation. The LLC status gives the CUSO greater flexibility in servicing its credit union clients, said Auto Expert President Jennifer Binkley. Formed as a CUSO in 1998, Riverside County's CU – as Altura CU was known then – formed the CUSO because it was dissatisfied with the customer service it felt members were receiving from an outside vendor the CU had used then to locate vehicles and assist members with auto purchases. By 2003, Auto Expert was actively marketing its services to other CUs for their members as well. The CUSO now serves 12 credit unions with assets totaling $2.26 billion and an aggregate membership of 325,000. Eleven of the CUs are in Southern California, and one is in Michigan.
