WASHINGTON – Leaders of Harland Financial Services were touting the company's acquisition of bank/thrift outsourced core processor Intrieve, Cincinnati, at CUNA's GAC as a potential boon to its credit union clients. They believe it will not only broaden Harland's reach in that market, but also make some new products available to credit unions. Raj Shivdasani, president of Harland Financial Solutions Core Systems Group said the acquisition will bring with it some EFT services, including ATM-POS-Debit service, that HFS will offer its credit union clients. Intrieve also has solutions for credit unions to print their own laser checks and other MICR documents. Intrieve has over 800 clients, and only 150 of them are core clients, so they are getting good penetration with these other solutions. It also runs a Check-21 enabled item processing center. Shivdasani also reported that credit unions continue to move to online core systems and more outsourcing of technology in general. HFS shored up its online product when it acquired Premier Systems Inc., which for years provided the ULTRADATA in-house system in a service bureau environment. Its CuServ solution is also an online product. Today roughly 425 CUs are on the ULTRADATA system (both in-house and online) with another 250 on CuServ. Harland Financial Services has also created a new Performance Advisors unit to help credit unions learn all that is in their systems and use that to meet their business goals. Vice President John Brinkworth heads up the team and said it's amazing how many credit unions are pleased with a data processing conversion when everything works, but don't do enough to mine all the benefits of the new system. Shivdasani believes the CU core processing market is really now between five players – Fiserv and its seven CU DP subsidiaries, Harland Financial Services, Open Solutions, Jack Henry and Fidelity National. He also thinks it's only a matter of time before Fiserv consolidates some of its CU DP units. [email protected]
