Insight Financial Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., has donated several large boxes of valentines to the James A. Haley VA Medical Center, which serves veterans in Central Florida. The valentines included much needed items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, combs, and tube socks. These goods were sent in addition to sugar-free candy and handmade valentines. This marks the seventh year for Insight Financial to participate in the Valentines for Vets program. Chetco Federal Credit Union, Harbor, Ore., staffers donated their time to honor the bravery, courage and determination shown by local firefighters by celebrating National Volunteer Firefighter's Day in every branch. The day long open house event featured poster sized thank you cards signed by CFCU members with expressions of appreciation, gratitude and support. Visiting volunteer and fulltime firefighters to the branches were visibly touched by the gesture. One station even brought its antique fire truck, fully restored and functional, for display. Tampa Bay Federal, Fla., staffers donated their creativity by creating a float for Tampa's Annual Gasparilla Children's Parade. “Ye Mystic Krewe of Wigglers,” the credit unions' pseudonym for the day, was made up of the young and the young at heart. The group tossed beads, drink koozies and t-shirts to hundreds of attendees who lined the streets of historic Ybor City. Tampa Bay Federal also hosted a booth at the Too Good For Drugs Junior Gasparilla Distance Classic event at the University of Tampa. The booth showcased fun activities and tasty treats for the kids, as well as useful credit union information for the adults. Tampa Bay Federal was also a top sponsor of the festivities. AltaOne Federal Credit Union, Ridgecrest, Calif., has donated a total of $4,215 to various charities within their field of membership. The funds were raised through AltaOne FCU's Skip Pay program during the month of December. Qualified members could skip a loan or Visa payment for a $20 fee. A portion of that fee was then donated to the charity of the branch's choice. Funds benefited The Boys & Girls Club of Southern Sierra, Toys for Tots, Boron Senior Citizens, Ombudsman/Advocacy Services of Inyo/Mono's Money Management Program, and California City's new technology center for the Community Youth Center. LA Financial Credit Union, Pasadena, Calif., has celebrated the first anniversary of the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House (PRMH) by donating $10,000 in a special room dedication to the “Light Room.” This particular guest room receives the most natural light in the house. The PRMH provides low-cost, and often free, lodging for up to seven families whose children are undergoing treatment for serious illnesses and injuries at nearby medical facilities. Nearly 130 families were served during the House's inaugural year. Saugus Federal Credit Union, has honored teachers at the Oaklandvale Elementary School with a Valentine's Day buffet lunch and flowers. Adopt-a-School partners Saugus FCU and the Hilltop Steak House honored the teachers for their dedication and commitment to their students.
