ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU has announced that Rebecca Somers has replaced John Zimmerman as public relations manager effective Feb. 22. Somers has a wealth of public relations knowledge. She most recently served as public relations director for Promisant, a global multi-currency electronic financial services company. There, she managed press and analyst relations, customer relations, and product launches for the company. Prior to that, Somers was a senior account executive with Cole Communications in McLean, Va., from 1995 through 2000, where she advised associations and high-tech and telecommunications clients on public relations, investor relations and strategic public relations programs. She has also done public relations for Landmark Systems Corporation, SCO, a software firm in Santa Cruz, Calif., and Novell, Inc. Somers is a graduate of Brigham Young University with honors in public relations and organizational communications and holds a minor in broadcast journalism. She is a native of Washington, D.C. “Rebecca brings a wealth of experience from the corporate, high-tech and financial world,” NAFCU President Fred Becker commented. “We are happy to have someone of her caliber on board; I look forward to working with her in building even stronger relationships with the press as we continue to promote the unique characteristics of credit unions to America’s consumers and Washington policymakers.”
