LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Credit Union League has named U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Menominne) and State Rep. Dave Palsrok (R-Manistee), as their 2004 Federal Legislator of the Year and State Legislator of the Year, respectively. In addition, legislative aides Patrick Rothwell, senior legislative assistant to U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Livonia) will be recognized as the League's 2004 Federal Staffer of the Year. Jennifer Spike-DeBano, legislative director to Michigan House Speaker Craig DeRoche (R-Novi) will be recognized as the 2004 State Staffer of the Year. Stupak was elected to his seventh term in Congress and is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Palsrok was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2002. During the 2003-04 legislative session, he served on the House Commerce Committee and chaired the Financial Services Subcommittee. Rothwell has been a member of Rep. McCotter's Washington, D.C. office since the congressman was first elected in 2002. Among his responsibilities, Rothwell handles financial services issues and has worked closely with MCUL Government Affairs staff during the past two years to keep McCotter informed on credit union issues. Spike-Debano was recently appointed legislative director by incoming House Speaker Craig DeRoche. Before that she served as legislative director to former Michigan House Speakers Rick Johnson and Chuck Pericone. The two Federal awards will be presented during CUNA's GAC. The state awards will be presented at the MCUL's 2005 GAC in Lansing on March 16.
