White Crown Federal Credit Union, Denver, Colo., has donated more than $8,000 to Urban Peak, a nonprofit agency that provides services to homelss youth and those in at-risk situations. Urban Peak provides such services as overnight shelter, healthcare, education, evening cultural arts activities and job placement. Funds were raised through a skip-a-loan program where a portion of the administrative fees were set aside for the donation. Maine Credit Union League, Westbrooke, has hosted the 11th Annual Dr. Noel Paradise Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge and reached several milestones. This year’s tournament not only raised $15,001, $3,000 more than last year’s record, for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program but also surpassed the $50,000 mark in total funds raised since the tournament’s inception. Some 29 teams competed and since the tournament began in 1993, the event has now raised more than $55,000 for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. March Community Credit Union, Moreno Valley, Calif., Vice President of Lending Lee Easterwood has donated his time, sweat and expertise to help with the City of Moreno Valley Homeownership Opportunity Program. March CCU has been named the lender of choice for the program, which provides down payment assistance to qualified low-income homebuyers purchasing an eligible home within the City that in turn promotes neighborhood stabilization and revitalization. In addition, some of the housing will come from Moreno Valley YouthBuild, a program designed to assist at risk young adults complete their education, teach them leadership skills and train them in the construction trade. Bellco Credit Union, Denver, Colo., staffers have increased their donations to Mile High United Way this year by 71%. In 2004, a total of $26,154.54 has been donated surpassing Bellco’s goal of $11,300. As part of its giving program Bellco matches employee contributions by 50%. Bellco has participated with Mile High United Way for 12 years. Texans Credit Union, Richardson, Texas, has raised $18,871 for Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) during its 2004 campaign. Employees raised the money by selling candy, Miracle balloons, ice cream donated by Blue Bunny, teddy bears and Texas quarter sets. Employees also participated in several area-wide Credit Unions for Kids fundraisers including a bowling tournament, golf tournament and silent auction. All funds raised will stay in the North Texas community. Texans has supported CMN as one of its official charities and has raised over $120,000 during the past five years. Matadors Community Credit Union, Chatsworth, Calif., has recently donated to Hand in Hand Family & Child Development Center, an Encino-based non-profit organization serving children with special needs and their families. The donation has helped to expand the reference library utilized by over 200 parents a year. Hand in Hand is committed to empowering parents with usable information, helpful strategies and the fundamental tools they need to foster positive changes in their children.
