WASHINGTON-The Credit Union Legislative Action Committee of CUNA contributed to a number of different party committees in January. CULAC gave $15,000 each to the Republican Governors Association, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the Republican National Committee Majority Fund, and the Democratic National Committee. The maximum contributions to single candidates in January included Congressmen John Lewis (D-Ga.), Richard Baker (R-La.), and Ed Bryant (R-Tenn.), who plans to run for the Senate seat Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) is vacating in 2006. Congressman Harold Ford (D-Tenn.) is the likely Democratic candidate. Bob Ney’s (R-Ohio) Prosperity PAC also received $5,000. In all, CULAC made more than $140,000 in contributions to federal candidates during the month of January 2005 and still ended the month with $431,456.40 on hand.
