SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Thomas McCaffery, chief deputy director of the California Department of Health Services, has been appointed to the board of The Golden 1 Credit Union. In his current position, McCaffery manages 5,000 employees and a budget of more than $34 billion. He also co-manages the 216-member executive team and oversees the operation of several programs. Prior to working at the California Department of Health Services, McCaffery was SVP and Chief Operating Officer for the Alliance of Catholic Health Care. He also represented Gov. Pete Wilson's administration in Washington, D.C. He is currently president of the board of the Sacramento Children's Home. The Golden 1 CU President/CEO Teresa Halleck described McCaffery as “a proven leader of the highest caliber,” adding that the credit union “is extremely fortunate to be the beneficiary of his expertise, judgment and guidance.” The Golden 1 CU is the largest credit union in California and the fourth largest in the U.S. It has more than $5 billion in assets and more than 575,000 members.
