ALEXANDRIA, Va.-In a memo to all NCUA staff distributed Jan. 5, NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson advised employees on how they can contribute to the Asian tsunami victims and the clean up efforts. "As a nation, we are troubled by the recent earthquake and resulting tsunami in South Asia," she wrote. "The incredible devastation and significant loss of life are truly horrifying. The anguish is felt around the world and has set in motion a remarkable response towards relief assistance." Johnson said that, according to the U.S. Agency for International Development, cash contributions are most effective for relief assistance. She noted that Kay Cole James, director of the Office of Personnel Management, has authorized a special solicitation of federal employees for the effort outside the typical Combined Federal Campaign procedures. USAID provides a list of relief organizations taking contributions at www.usaid.gov. "Your contribution towards this relief effort will undoubtedly make a true difference for those affected," Johnson concluded.
