NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. – With credit unions continuing to hold only 2% share of the mortgage market, there’s ample room for improvement. With that in mind, CU Realty Inc., a subsidiary of mortgage CUSO CU Companies, has launched a six-month long cable advertising campaign to increase consumers’ awareness of the full-service real estate company and credit unions’ mortgage expertise. The six-month campaign will run on Comcast Cable. The ads were designed by Comcast and will appear on TNT, Animal Planet, CNBC, FX and TVLand and target current and prospective homeowners in St. Paul and surrounding suburbs in the North and East metro areas of the city. The campaign began Dec. 29 and will run through June 28. CU Realty has a nationwide trademark, and President Don Rasmussen said when the six months are over the company may expand the advertising campaign throughout the U.S. CU Realty is a subsidiary of CU Companies, which was established in 1997 and is currently owned by 64 credit unions through Minnesota with a total of 800,000 members. The company offers full-service real estate services at a 4.25% commission, which is lower than the 6-7% commission most real estate companies charge for comparable services. In addition, when CU Realty customers buy and sell a home through the company they are given a $500 cash rebate bonus after closing. “We’ve come a long way since we were founded and we’re capable of handling additional business,” said Rasmussen. “It was time for us to branch out of simply doing statement stuffers and lobby posters and share our message with the rest of the world. Educating the public about what we and credit unions can offer in terms of mortgages is a challenge for us.” As a C-Corporation, CU Realty can do business with non-members of credit unions. The cable advertising promotes CU Realty’s 4.25% commission, promotes its buy-sell rebate program, shows the names all of the credit unions affiliated with the company, as well as CU Realty’s phone number. The ad ends with the tagline, “Do the Math, Call Today.” -
