MOORPARK, Calif.- XP Systems said that Corporate America Family Credit Union of Elgin, Ill., is its first client to run the core processor's XP2 system on IBM POWER5 server technology, an upgrade the CU says has quintupled its back-office processing speeds. The $550 million CU has moved from its IBM RS/6000 hardware to an IBM eServer P5 570-4 and DB2 Universal Database to run the POWER5 platform. XP Systems will have 11 credit unions on the new server by the end of January, the Fiserv unit said. "Our previous machine met our needs and outlasted the timeframe we had budgeted for it. However, the IBM POWER5 has given us a five-fold increase in back-office processing speeds, taking tasks like full system backups down from a couple hours to minutes," said Pete Paulson, executive vice president at Corporate America Family CU. Last month, an IBM POWER5 processor, running on an IBM eServer P5 595, set a new world record for computing speed by exceeding three million transactions per minute, according to an announcement from Big Blue. "IBM has done a tremendous job of outpacing its competition in both price and performance with POWER5 line of processors," says John Edwards, president of XP Systems.
