Valley Credit Union, San Jose, Calif., has hosted its 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament and raised $21,000 to benefit two local non-profit organizations, Via Rehabilitation Services and InnVision-The Way Home. Major sponsors included San Jose Magazine, State National Insurance Companies, Centrix Financial, The CO-OP Network, Mortgage Outlet and SWBC Insurance Services. Emcee for the evening was Brian Adams, Associate Publisher, Silicon Valley Biz Ink and Co-Publisher, Valley Scene. Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, employees assisted the Family Service Association, an organization that provides low-cost, high-quality counseling and family services, renovate the exterior of its building. Forty employees spent their day landscaping the area, paving a new driveway, striping the parking lot, and modifying the playground area to include new and updated equipment for the children. Tampa Bay Federal Credit Union, Fla., has participated in the 10th Annual Police Memorial Run. The Police Memorial Run is held in memory of the 25 Tampa Police Officers who have been killed in the line of duty. In addition to a $5,000 sponsorship, one of the TBFCU “Money Cars” was the lead vehicle for both the 10K and 5K races and the Credit Union's Double Decker Bus was on site, complete with an on-board ATM. CU staffers also volunteered their time to work the 10K water station and some even tied on their running shoes to participate in the 5K event. Financial 21 Community Credit Union, San Diego, has donated over 100 books to the Boys & Girls Club of Vista. Melinda Collins, Community Relations Officer for Financial 21 became involved with The Boys and Girls Club of Vista when she offered classes for the youth in financial management. Peoples Trust Credit Union, Southfield, Mich., has raised more than $2,000 during a raffle for a framed Detroit Pistons jersey signed by player Ben Wallace. Along with proceeds from the annual sale of Entertainment books, Peoples Trust donated $2,575 to Children's Miracle Network. The money will benefit William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Genesis Federal Credit Union, Springfield, Va., has teamed up with Inova Blood Donor Services to host a blood drive. Some 15 pints of blood were collected through the generous donations of members and employees. This was GFCU's first community blood drive.
