MCT Federal Credit Union, Gaithersburg, Md., high school internshave been honored by the Montgomery County Public Schools. Eachstudent received a pin from Montgomery County Public Schoolscommemorating completion of their internship assignments, which arepart of a two-year Academy of Finance extracurricular educationalprogram that helps train young people for careers in financialmanagement. The students, Thomas Donnellan, Zachary Martinez,Dorothy Zarr, Jorge Saenz and Linh Nguyen were among 91 high schoolseniors who were honored at the ceremony. Harborstone Credit Union,Lakewood, Wash. Branch/ Community, Relations Liaison Mary Moss hasbeen recognized as one of the area's 2004 “Women of Influence.” TheWomen of Influence program was launched in 2003 by the BusinessExaminer Newspaper Group to recognize the fast-growing segment ofthe business community. Eleven women were honored for their impacton business, industry or community and their vision for the futurein these areas. San Antonio Federal Credit Union, Director EmeritusCarlton J. Mertens has received the 2004 Alumni Anniversary Award,which recognizes the lifetime career and civic achievements of anoutstanding former student. Mertens is a 1954 graduate ofUniversity of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Mertens, a well-known marketingprofessional, moved to San Antonio in 1970 and opened the publicrelations and advertising agency, Alamo Ad Center, Inc. Since hisretirement in 1995, Mertens has produced travel television showsfor Time Warner Cable. Today, he serves as executive producer andhost of Travel Directions. iQ Credit Union, Vancouver, Wash., VicePresident Information Systems James Morrell has been honored forbeing “Accomplished Under 40″ by the Vancouver Business Journal andLeadership Clark County. The Vancouver Business Journal andLeadership Clark County honor 40 individuals in the community underthe age of 40 for their outstanding professional and communityservice. The 2004 award winners all named community service andprofessional leadership, commitment to their respectiveorganizations and the welfare of friends and strangers alike astheir top priorities. IBM Southeast Employees' Federal CreditUnion, Boca Raton, Fla., has been honored with a recognition awardfrom LICU+ for its Service Excellence Program. The innovativeprogram established a new way to measure and analyze the serviceprovided to IBM Southeast EFCU members, thus allowing management tomake proactive decisions and react quickly to members' needs. IBMSoutheast EFCU was recognized as a “trendsetter and innovator”within the credit union community. Guardian Credit Union,Montgomery, Ala., President/CEO Landel Casey has been presented the2004 Alabama Credit Union Managers Association Credit Union CEOAward. Guardian CU serves over 9,500 members and has $70 million inassets. Casey was also awarded the CEO of Year in 1987 and 1997.Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union, West Lafayette, Ind. CrisisIntervention Team members Dave Melville has been presented theCecilia Weber Advocate Award by the National Alliance for theMentally Ill of West Central Indiana (NAMI WCI). The award is tohonor individuals who have shown exemplary dedication in promotingmodern attitudes toward the treatment of the mentally ill. The CITprogram, implemented across four local police departments trainsselected officers on the nature of mental illness, treatmentoptions and means by which psychiatric crisis situations can bedeescalated.
