MCT Federal Credit Union, Gaithersburg, Md., high school interns have been honored by the Montgomery County Public Schools. Each student received a pin from Montgomery County Public Schools commemorating completion of their internship assignments, which are part of a two-year Academy of Finance extracurricular educational program that helps train young people for careers in financial management. The students, Thomas Donnellan, Zachary Martinez, Dorothy Zarr, Jorge Saenz and Linh Nguyen were among 91 high school seniors who were honored at the ceremony. Branch/ Community, Relations Liaison Mary Moss has been recognized as one of the area’s 2004 “Women of Influence.” The Women of Influence program was launched in 2003 by the Business Examiner Newspaper Group to recognize the fast-growing segment of the business community. Eleven women were honored for their impact on business, industry or community and their vision for the future in these areas. San Antonio Federal Credit Union, Director Emeritus Carlton J. Mertens has received the 2004 Alumni Anniversary Award, which recognizes the lifetime career and civic achievements of an outstanding former student. Mertens is a 1954 graduate of University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Mertens, a well-known marketing professional, moved to San Antonio in 1970 and opened the public relations and advertising agency, Alamo Ad Center, Inc. Since his retirement in 1995, Mertens has produced travel television shows for Time Warner Cable. Today, he serves as executive producer and host of Travel Directions. iQ Credit Union, Vancouver, Wash., Vice President Information Systems James Morrell has been honored for being “Accomplished Under 40″ by the Vancouver Business Journal and Leadership Clark County. The Vancouver Business Journal and Leadership Clark County honor 40 individuals in the community under the age of 40 for their outstanding professional and community service. The 2004 award winners all named community service and professional leadership, commitment to their respective organizations and the welfare of friends and strangers alike as their top priorities. IBM Southeast Employees’ Federal Credit Union, Boca Raton, Fla., has been honored with a recognition award from LICU+ for its Service Excellence Program. The innovative program established a new way to measure and analyze the service provided to IBM Southeast EFCU members, thus allowing management to make proactive decisions and react quickly to members’ needs. IBM Southeast EFCU was recognized as a “trendsetter and innovator” within the credit union community. Guardian Credit Union, Montgomery, Ala., President/CEO Landel Casey has been presented the 2004 Alabama Credit Union Managers Association Credit Union CEO Award. Guardian CU serves over 9,500 members and has $70 million in assets. Casey was also awarded the CEO of Year in 1987 and 1997. Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union, West Lafayette, Ind. Crisis Intervention Team members Dave Melville has been presented the Cecilia Weber Advocate Award by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of West Central Indiana (NAMI WCI). The award is to honor individuals who have shown exemplary dedication in promoting modern attitudes toward the treatment of the mentally ill. The CIT program, implemented across four local police departments trains selected officers on the nature of mental illness, treatment options and means by which psychiatric crisis situations can be deescalated.
