SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Security Service Federal Credit Union has teamed up with the San Antonio Food Bank for two holiday drives that will put millions of pounds of food on the table for the city's most needy. Food for SA, which launched November 1, has SSFCU service centers serving again this year as exclusive drop off sites for the drive, which expects to bring in more than a million pounds of food. The drive is co-sponsored by media partners News4WOAI and the San Antonio Express-News, as well as other retailers. Last year's drive was the Food Bank's largest in terms of pounds collected in San Antonio history. In all, a million pounds came in – enough to make 781,250 meals or feed 40,000 people three meals a day for six months. To complement the Food for SA drive, SSFCU also served as host for the Second Annual Turkey Round-Up. Refrigerated trucks donated by SYSCO were parked in front of two SSFCU service centers all day as volunteers collected frozen turkeys to put on the plates of families for Thanksgiving. SSFCU members participated in the event last year, and helped bring in 7,600 pounds of turkey. The San Antonio Food Bank feeds more than 40,000 families each month in 16 counties in southwest Texas.
