ALEXANDRIA, Va.-CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union is not going to sit idly by when there are threats to tax the credit union community. The $230 million CommonWealth One began a petition and letter drive and obtained nearly 1,100 signatures in one month's time. One CommonWealth member stated, "I've been with CommonWealth One for six years now, and they have helped me and my family with every financial situation, big or small. They are always friendly and I really save money. I'm sure there are many others that feel the same way and agree when I say that passing this tax law will hurt more people than help them." "CommonWealth One helped me refinance my car and apply for a student loan all in the same year," another member wrote. "I would have been in a bind without their help, not to mention I would have had to spend a whole lot more too. I hope that the government doesn't start taxing credit unions. That law would definitely affect hard working students like me." CommonWealth One encouraged all credit union members to get involved in defending the credit union tax exemption and directed concerned members to visit www.MyCUIsMe.com to learn more about how to fight a tax on credit unions.
