AUSTIN, Texas – Another Texas credit union has begun to offer other credit union members free-free access to some of its ATMs, bringing the number of Texas credit unions doing so to at least seven. On November 19 the $1.3 billion Texans Credit Union, headquartered in the Dallas area, announced that it would give fee-free access to its two ATMs in the Austin area. Already six other Texas credit unions, led by the $2.2 billion Randolph Brooks FCU have entered into similar agreements or made similar gestures. "We considered that they really don't have many credit union branches or access down there," explained Shalissa Colwell, public relations manager for Texans. "So we thought this would help improve overall customer service to credit union members." Texans has 21 branches in the Dallas area and 40 ATMs overall. It has two branches in the Austin area and two ATMs. Texans' offer went out to 16 credit unions and, should every credit union accept it, would offer additional fee-free ATM service to 470,000 credit union members. The credit unions will have to formally accept the offer and convey the necessary Batch Identification Numbers to make it possible, Colwell explained.
