WASHINGTON-Former NCUA Chairman Norman D'Amours was just being `Norm' was the assessment of CUNA Chairman Dick Ensweiler regarding remarks D'Amours made bashing CUNA at the Iowa Bankers Association. "I think that's just Norm D'Amours," Ensweiler, also the president of the Texas Credit Union League, said. "He's got the opportunity to hit the speaking circuit and he's taking advantage of that." He added that D'Amours' comments were not only inappropriate, but also irrelevant and erroneous. There was no point to discussing CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica's salary, he said. Additionally, Mica never has made more than the head of the American Bankers Association as D'Amours charged, Ensweiler asserted. D'Amours spoke at the Iowa Bankers Association annual conference Sept. 21, from which Credit Union Times was barred from covering his speech. He told the bankers that they need to try some new methods in their battle against credit unions.
