JAX Federal Credit Union, Jacksonville, Fla., lucky member Danny McConnell, Jr., has won a new Compaq desktop computer. McConnell was entered into a membership campaign by opening a savings account at the credit union. JAX FCU utilized the computer giveaway to emphasize that it is a new, local option for Fidelity Financial employees looking for a financial service provider Telesis Community Credit Union, Chatsworth, Calif., has been presented the Best Corporate Volunteer Award by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal (SFVBJ). The SFVBJ Community Awards Program recognizes the top not-for-profit organizations and most socially responsible companies in the region. Telesis' nomination for the Community Awards came from its community partners in appreciation of its contribution of over 2,000 hours and $60,000 to various organizations that provide much needed support services to families and children. Centra Credit Union, Columbus, Ohio, President/CEO Loretta Burd has been honored by Indiana Governor Joe Kernan as a Sagamore of the Wabash. The award is the highest honor the governor's office bestows and is a personal tribute usually given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or to the governor. The term "sagamore" was used by the American Indian Tribes of the northeastern United States to describe a lesser chief or a great man among the tribe to whom the true chief would look for wisdom and advice. Oregon Community Credit Union, Eugene, Ore. President/CEO Gordon Hoerauf, his board and staff have been honored by the University of Oregon Alumni Association. The Alumni Association hosted a special luncheon to recognize the credit union's continued support over the past five years. The credit union has been contributing $100,000 each year to fund 25 undergraduate scholarships at the University of Oregon since 1999. The credit union also participates in several other university fundraising efforts throughout the year. Financial 21 Community Credit Union, San Diego, has named Merilee Keyler as Employee of the Quarter. Keyler has excelled in a variety of positions with Financial 21. The award also recognized her consistent and outstanding service performance.
