CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The first Carolinas Cup Golf Championship, a fundraiser to benefit the Victory Junction Gang Camp for chronically ill and terminally ill youngsters, brought in $30,000, according to the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation. Teams from the North and South Carolina Leagues competed in the charity golf event held Oct. 24-26 at the Ballantyne Resort. The tournament was hosted by CUNA Mutual Group and teams from South Carolina won. "This was the first of what will be an annual event, and it was very successful," said John Slack, division vice president in CUNA Mutual's Southeast Marketing Division. Attending the tournament was NASCAR racing legend Richard Petty who signed autographs and spoke at the event's Oct. 25 banquet. Credit unions in the Carolinas through the Foundation are seeking to raise $1 million over the next three years for the Randelman, N.C. camp.
