WASHINGTON – More than 50 Congressional staff members gathered in the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill to celebrate International Credit Union Day at a reception hosted by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and CUNA. Dr. Brian Branch, WOCCU chief operating officer, briefed staffers on worldwide credit union development and the credit union difference. "It is especially appropriate that we spent time on International Credit Union Day on Capitol Hill," said WOCCU Governmental Affairs Manager Molly Schar. "Of WOCCU's 15 current credit union development projects, seven are funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, which is ultimately funded by Congress through appropriations for microenterprise and microfinance development. This reception was an opportunity to educate congressional staff about WOCCU's work and how it fits into Congress' overall development agenda." Senior staff from CUNA and the Maryland and Washington, D.C./Virginia credit union leagues were also in attendance.
