MADISON, Wis. – David Fowler, who previously served as associate general counsel and assistant vice president for CUNA Mutual, will now serve in the same capacity as assistant vice president for CUNA Mutual's Employee Solutions Group. The new role became effective in early September, said Phil Tschudy, CUNA Mutual manager, media relations. Fowler previously worked in the Office of General Counsel. CUNA Mutual's Employee Solutions Group assists credit unions with group, retirement and executive benefits, enrollment, educational and planning tools, as well as human resource solutions. Tschudy emphasized the internal move is "routine in a company with 5,000 employees." "He is performing the same role he did in our Legal Department, only he is now part of Employees Solutions," Tschudy said, adding the move was made to "better align resources, which resulted in a different title." Tschudy said CUNA Mutual has multiple attorneys with the title of "associate general counsel." As recent as August, Fowler and other CUNA representatives met with the IRS on the issue of providing further guidance on 457(f) plans and whether FCUs can use a for-profit model for their executives.
