TULSA-Williams Employees Credit Union, which converted to a community charter "but withstood adversity" as its corporate parent suffered huge losses in the dot.com collapse of 2001, has a new name, Wilserv CU. The name became effective Oct. 15 and reflects "the credit union's past" and yet underscores "a strong foundation" for future growth in serving Tulsa, Rogers, Creek, Osage and Wagoner counties. WilServe, with three Tulsa area branches, represents the second name change for the CU, founded in 1934 as Great Lakes CU in Kansas City, MO. It later moved to Tulsa following Williams Employees' acquisition of Great Lakes Pipeline. Great Lakes CU changed its name to WECU in 1967.
