WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Team Allegacy, a group of 26 cyclists from Allegacy Federal Credit Union has helped raise $18,000 to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society and people in the Piedmont Triad area who are living with MS. Last year Team Allegacy's 10 riders raised $8,000. "This year, quite a few members of the credit union joined Team Allegacy, and that's a big reason why the team was so successful this year," said Team Allegacy Captain Julie Hopkins. The two-day, 90-mile MS Tour to Tanglewood resulted in a total of over $750,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in its effort to end the devastating effects of MS. Multiple sclerosis affects nearly a third of a million people in the United States. A new case is diagnosed every hour. It can cause blurred vision, loss of balance, poor coordination, slurred speech, tremors, numbness, extreme fatigue and even paralysis and blindness. "What a wonderful accomplishment in the fight against MS," said W.K. "Ike" Keener, Jr., Allegacy president/CEO. "The Tour to Tanglewood is a fixture in the community, and we are so proud of the employees and members of Allegacy who showed their support for this worthy cause." Allegacy FCU not only made a cash donation to the team but also purchased team jerseys.
