Credit union groups have been able to garner hordes of political support both for the tax exemption and for the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act. The major trade associations often like to tout that there are 80-million plus CU members as a sign of the industry's potential voter clout. But do these members even understand the attacks and would they back CUs with their votes if push came to shove? This is the subject of the latest Credit Union Times' voting poll. Have credit unions and CU trade associations done enough to educate credit union members about banker attacks and the potential impact of losing the tax exemption, FOM powers and other popular targets of the bankers? * No, enough hasn't been done to alert members of the issues * Yes, members understand the importance of banker attacks * It's a credit union problem, and members shouldn't be dragged into the political fight * Don't know
