WASHINGTON-The five federal financial institutions regulators have announced the availability of an InfoBase with information covering the consumer compliance aspects of the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act. The Check 21 InfoBase features a training presentation, examination procedures, frequently asked questions, and links to other resources that may be helpful in understanding Check 21. Each agency is responsible for distributing this product, available at www.ffiec.gov/exam/check21/default.htm, to its staff. The idea was developed to provide financial institutions examiners a quick source of introductory training and basic information with a long-term goal of providing last-minute training for new regs and other issues. Check 21,which facilitates check truncation and electronic check exchange, becomes effective Oct. 28.
