WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – It may be too soon to tell if a trend is developing of state-chartered credit unions taking advantage of federal credit union field-of-membership parity provisions in their respective state’s credit union statute and applying for a TIP charter. So far, 10 federal credit unions have been approved by NCUA for TIP charters since the agency established the charter option about a year and a half ago. They include: American Airlines FCU – air transportation industry, approved Dec. 2003; NWA FCU – air transportation industry, approved Nov. 2003; Central Florida Healthcare FCU – healthcare industry, approved Nov. 2003; NW Preferred FCU – insurance industry, approved Oct. 2003; Schumpert FCU – healthcare industry, approved Jan. 2004; FAA First FCU – airline industry, approved Feb. 2004; Nebraska Energy FCU – industry, approved Feb. 2004; Omaha Police FCU – police protection industry, approved April 2004; Norwest Medical FCU – healthcare industry, approved July 2004; Southeast Michigan State Employees FCU – state and local governments, approved Aug. 2004.
