ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA and the Internal Revenue Service will host an Access Across America workshop Sept. 30 in San Jose, Calif. Credit union participants at the workshop will learn about a number of IRS programs they can use to better serve their members. These programs include the Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN) Acceptance Agent process, the VITA Program which offers free tax preparation for taxpayers, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), and how to become an Electronic Return Originator (ERO) to provide electronic tax filing services. Credit unions will be able to apply on-site to participate in these programs. "We are pleased with the partnership between the IRS and NCUA, which highlights the opportunities to provide vital tax services to credit union members," NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson said. "We look forward to enhancing this partnership by hosting similar workshops throughout the country." Credit unions can register for the workshop online at NCUA's Web site (www.ncua.gov). It is being held in the IRS' San Jose field office from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sept. 30. NCUA and the IRS are planning another workshop for November 9 in Miami.
