AUSTIN, Texas – The state's capital will be the site on Oct. 30 for two events being billed as the "sister run" to the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run – the first annual Credit Union Texas 10K Run/Walk and kids 1K fun run. Just as the Cherry Blossom run is held to benefit the Children's Miracle Network, both events in Texas will also benefit CMN, as well as Texas children's hospitals. The 2004 Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run raised $325,000. Organizers of the Credit Union Texas Twister want to reach the first year fundraising goal of $90,000, and they're seeking credit union and business sponsors – both from Texas and outside the state – to help them achieve that goal. Sponsors will receive recognition on the race Web site and on the day of the run. Race organizers have set up a Web site – www.cutxtwister.org – for parties interested in becoming a race sponsor, or those who want to register for the race, volunteer or make a donation. "We have a great opportunity to get the word out about the credit union movement and to show our state legislators how powerful our members are," said Southwest Airlines FCU President Diane Furnas, Credit Union Texas Twister Run, Inc. committee member.
