ALEXANDRIA, Va. – NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson announced that theagency would be holding the second in a series of Access AcrossAmerica Economic Empowerment Summits in Albuquerque, New Mexico onSept. 13. “The summit will bring together the public and privatesectors to discuss the important issues of economic empowerment.The summit will provide an overview of resources available tocredit unions, which may assist them in their outreach efforts topromote financial education, homeownership, and member businesslending,” Johnson said. The free, one-day seminar is designed withCEOs and volunteers in mind. It will focus on federal resourcesavailable to credit unions with key panels on financial education,homeownership, member business lending and partnershipopportunities for credit unions. Panelists will includerepresentatives from government agencies and non-profitorganizations. In addition, there will be a session on grantwriting techniques and serving underserved areas. “Many creditunions do not have the resources available to apply for thenumerous grants available through NCUA and other governmententities. We hope to provide credit union leaders with the toolsneeded to prepare successful grant applications. We want toencourage credit unions to look at all grants available,” Johnsoncommented. She invited credit unions from New Mexico, Arizona,Colorado, Oklahoma, and Texas to participate. NCUA held a similarconference in Milwaukee last month.
