DES MOINES, Iowa-Of all places former NCUA Chairman NormD'Amours could turn up, he will be a keynote speaker at the 118thIowa Bankers Association Annual Meeting September 19-21. "Weapproached him because we thought he would provide an interestingperspective on the credit union industry," Iowa Bankers AssociationPresident and CEO John Sorensen said. He added that the bankersgroup left D'Amours topic of discussion "pretty open-ended."Sorensen said he does not expect D'Amours to lean in the bankers'favor on the taxation issue, but he knows the former NCUA chairmanis a strong supporter of community reinvestment for allinstitutions. D'Amours tried a number of times, unsuccessfully, toplace Community Reinvestment Act-like requirements on creditunions. After leaving NCUA, D'Amours joined the Washington, D.C.consulting firm of Dierman Wortley Zola & Associates. D'Amourshas stayed out of the credit union picture since leaving the NCUAboard. In contrast, former chairman NCUA Dennis Dollar started acredit union consulting company.
