DES MOINES, Iowa-Of all places former NCUA Chairman Norm D'Amours could turn up, he will be a keynote speaker at the 118th Iowa Bankers Association Annual Meeting September 19-21. "We approached him because we thought he would provide an interesting perspective on the credit union industry," Iowa Bankers Association President and CEO John Sorensen said. He added that the bankers group left D'Amours topic of discussion "pretty open-ended." Sorensen said he does not expect D'Amours to lean in the bankers' favor on the taxation issue, but he knows the former NCUA chairman is a strong supporter of community reinvestment for all institutions. D'Amours tried a number of times, unsuccessfully, to place Community Reinvestment Act-like requirements on credit unions. After leaving NCUA, D'Amours joined the Washington, D.C. consulting firm of Dierman Wortley Zola & Associates. D'Amours has stayed out of the credit union picture since leaving the NCUA board. In contrast, former chairman NCUA Dennis Dollar started a credit union consulting company.
