Most CUNA Mutual employees have been with the company for 10, 20 or even more than 30 years. I on the other hand, have not yet celebrated my fifth year anniversary with the company. As a result, I can tell you first-hand that life on Mineral Point Road is far superior to other organizations. The pay, benefits, working conditions and resources are without question the best of any employer I've been with in my more than 12-years of professional life. I'm somewhat puzzled about the union's complaint about having to work 40 hours a week. For all of my professional life I've worked 40 hours a week and longer, for less pay and benefits. I've never expected to work less than 40 hours a week_ever. To survive in today's marketplace, businesses must continually adapt to change and employees must recognize this and be flexible to it. A business that doesn't adapt succumbs to loss of business, layoffs, mergers, take over, and ultimately, are forced to close their doors. In today's world, to expect a business to be competitive with workplace rules set 20 or more years ago is unrealistic. I know what exists outside the walls of CUNA Mutual and Credit Union Times Publisher Mike Welch does too. His recent column stated that the union is asking for an even sweeter, sweetheart of a deal, and this observation hits the nail on the head. From what I know of the company's offer, it exceeds most anything you'll find out there. Heather Martens – Raffel Creative Projects Manager CUNA Mutual Group Madison, Wis.
