Robins Federal Credit Union, Warner Robbins, Ga., Hartley Bridge Road branch Member Service Representative Sam Renfroe, has donated his “head” to help promote the new “Shave Your Rowdy Rates” campaign. Renfroe decided to have the low 3.75% rate shaved into his head. Rowdy Rates is an annual promotion that encourages members to shave the rates on their existing auto loans by 2.50% at another financial institution to as low as 3.75% APR as well as save up to 2.50% on boat, motorcycle, RV or camper loans. The annual promotion will last until July 31st, 2004. Energy First Credit Union, Alhambra, Calif., has recently participated in a golf tournament held by the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce, which benefited high school seniors in the community. The event raised nearly $10,000 for deserving young adults. Everett Credit Union, Mass., employees have donated their time to help keep the over 2,000 participants of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer well hydrated. Everett CU staffers were stationed at the top of a hill waiting with ice cold water and an encouraging smile to help walkers quench their thirst and continue to the finish line. Postal Credit Union, Woodbury, Minn., has co-sponsored the St. Paul Saints Reading Tree program for the third consecutive year this summer by donating $1,500 to help fund the program which encourages children to read. Before every Sunday home game, a Saints player or celebrity reads to kids on the field and invites them to participate in other pre-game activities. In addition, the youngsters learn about the importance of reading and are rewarded for reading 10 or more books during the summer. Virginia Credit Union League, Lynchburg, Community Involvement Committee has raised $4,643 for the Children’s Miracle Network. Credit unions throughout Virginia participated in the fund-raising effort by donating gift baskets and prizes that were raffled off. Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit alliance of children’s hospitals dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America. Northwest Community Credit Union, Springfield, Ore., has raised more than $3,300 for several non-profit agencies throughout Oregon. During the fundraiser Northwest Community Credit Union donated five dollars to a number of local community organizations every time a customer at any branch opened a new account. The beneficiary non-profit organizations include Safe Haven Humane Society; Oregon Humane Society; Humane Society of Central Oregon; Community Sharing; Food for Lane County; The Salvation Army; Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon; Oregon Humane Society; Boys & Girls Club of Roseburg; and Wildlife Safari. Cabrillo Credit Union, San Diego, Calif., has donated $1,000 to the Scripps Ranch High School Girls’ Lacrosse program. This donation will be used to pay for field rental fees, referee fees, tournament fees and uniforms. The Girls Lacrosse program is two-years old and is not financially supported by the high school. The team has had a solid track record and is vying for the recognition to attain school district funding.
