WASHINGTON – CUNA Chairman Dick Ensweiller, president and CEO of the Texas Credit Union League, was honored with a reception at the U.S. Capitol last week. Several congressional credit union supporters stopped by to shake hands with Ensweiller and CUNA officials at the reception. Congressman Nick Lampson (R-Texas) was one of the first to drop in. Representatives Charlie Stenholm (D-Texas) and Sylvestre Reyes (D-Texas) also visited with CUNA's chairman and other senior staffers of the organization, including President and CEO Dan Mica, a former congressman himself. House Financial Services Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) also made an appearance. A number of lawmakers who were unable to attend the reception sent staffers in their place. CUNA hopes to make the reception at the Capitol an annual event for its chairmen to help raise awareness of credit unions and their issues on the Hill and networking with lawmakers, according to CUNA Vice President of Communications and Media Outreach Pat Keefe. -
