SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Texas Credit Union League honoredcredit union veterans Paul Mitchell and Jim Bryan during theleague's 70th Annual Meeting and Expo by inducting them into the2004 Texas Credit Union Hall of Fame. The Texas Credit Union Hallof Fame honors individuals who reflect a history of service toTexas credit unions. According to the League, Mitchell and Bryannot only reflect a rich history of service, but also demonstrateoutstanding commitment and passion for the credit union movement.Mitchell and Bryan were recognized for their exemplarycontributions. Mitchell's career in the credit union movementspanned more than 40 years. Numerous credit unions benefited fromMitchell's service including Houston Telephone CU, Weingarten EFCU,Houston Municipal ECU, Houston Postal CU, Ethyl Employees CU andDuPont Laporte FCU, from which he retired as president in 2002.Mitchell also served in various volunteer capacities for local,state and national organizations, including the Houston Chapter ofCredit Unions, TCUL, TCUL Services, Members Insurance, SouthwestCorporate FCU, and Town North Bank. Other achievements include hisroles as director of the Credit Union National Association,advisory director for the Federal Reserve and chairman of theBayshore Chamber of Commerce. In 2001, LaPorte Main StreetAssociation named Paul Mitchell its Man of the Year. Aftergraduating from Southern Methodist University, Bryan started whatwould be a 12-year career in accounting and finance at TexasInstruments. He then was offered a position as vice president ofTexans (formerly Texins) CU in Richardson. Two years later, he waspromoted to president and CEO, a position he held for nearly 30years until retirement in 2003. Organizations that have benefitedfrom Bryan's involvement, commitment, and expertise include theDallas Chapter of Credit Unions, Town North Bank, TCUL, SouthwestCorporate FCU, CUNA, Filene Research Institute and the CUNA MutualGroup. In the 1990s, Bryan also was instrumental in rallying Texascredit unions to defend their status as non-profit organizations.-
