WASHINGTON – The Washington D.C.-based law firm of Luse Gorman Pomerenk & Schenk, one of the leading law firms specializing in helping credit unions seeking to convert to mutual bank charters, has added some dates to its calendar of seminars on charter change in response to the $619 Columbia Credit Union’s failed conversion attempt. “Regardless of whether that credit union ever attempts another membership vote, the NCUA’s disapproval letter provides important guidance on the voting process that should not be ignored by other credit unions considering the mutual savings bank charter,” the firm wrote in a newsletter that was mailed to credit unions in April. In response the firm said it has added additional informational seminars for credit unions interested in the charter move. The seminars will emphasize the importance of “advance planning in securing the member vote on a charter conversion,” the law firm said. The firm has six seminars in different parts of the country scheduled over the balance of 2003.
