DES MOINES, Iowa -Credit unions here had an opportunity to see the results of raising $300,000 for the Children's Miracle Network. Credit unions were on hand to celebrate the grand opening of a family lounge located in the Children's Hospital of Iowa's new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Part of a $23.6 million project to build a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Maternity Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the hospital in Iowa City, the lounge features showers, Internet access, a lactation center and kitchenette. The family lounge allows the hospital to offer the best medical care possible in the most compassionate manner while providing a comfortable environment for patients and their families. " This is a prime example of how credit unions are helping Iowans and their communities. These contributions didn't come from large corporate donations - they were raised one dollar at a time by Iowa credit union members," says Iowa CUL Director of Strategic Alliances & Public Affairs Murray Williams. Credit unions here raised money through a variety of creative fundraisers from a Chain of Hearts campaign to golf outings. "We are very grateful for the money raised by Iowa credit unions for the new family lounge," says Lisa Baum, Director of Children's Miracle Network at Children's Hospital of Iowa. "Many families will benefit from the lounge and it is an exciting addition to the hospital."
