DES MOINES, Iowa -Credit unions here had an opportunity to seethe results of raising $300,000 for the Children's Miracle Network.Credit unions were on hand to celebrate the grand opening of afamily lounge located in the Children's Hospital of Iowa's newPediatric Intensive Care Unit. Part of a $23.6 million project tobuild a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Maternity Center andNeonatal Intensive Care Unit at the hospital in Iowa City, thelounge features showers, Internet access, a lactation center andkitchenette. The family lounge allows the hospital to offer thebest medical care possible in the most compassionate manner whileproviding a comfortable environment for patients and theirfamilies. " This is a prime example of how credit unions arehelping Iowans and their communities. These contributions didn'tcome from large corporate donations - they were raised one dollarat a time by Iowa credit union members," says Iowa CUL Director ofStrategic Alliances & Public Affairs Murray Williams. Creditunions here raised money through a variety of creative fundraisersfrom a Chain of Hearts campaign to golf outings. "We are verygrateful for the money raised by Iowa credit unions for the newfamily lounge," says Lisa Baum, Director of Children's MiracleNetwork at Children's Hospital of Iowa. "Many families will benefitfrom the lounge and it is an exciting addition to thehospital."
