SALT LAKE CITY – Wanting to infuse its messages with more creative appeal, the Utah League of Credit Unions has dipped into the entertainment pool to find its new director of communications Bob Ahlander. "We hired Bob because he has a unique perspective; he looks at things a little differently from someone who was incubated in a corporate culture," said Utah League CU President Scott Simpson. "Bob has the unique ability to communicate complex messages to his audiences in a fun and relatable way." After finishing a degree in Spanish and Anthropology from Brigham Young University, Ahlander took a "day job" as writer/editor at a small publishing company, while continuing to tour with the vocal group Extempo. While touring he developed street-savvy promotion and marketing skills, which lead him to a three-year stint with the Salt Lake City-based ExcelEntertainment Group where he handled all marketing, promotion, and publicity efforts for the company's three record labels. At the time he was hired by the league, Ahlander was acting as Artistic Director of the award-winning BYU ensemble Vocal Point, a group he co-founded in 1991.
