NEW ORLEANS – The CUES award ceremony started off paying tribute to the late Wauna FCU CEO Dave Baggett, who has the distinction of being the only person to win both the CUES Operations Professional of the Year and CUES Marketer of the Year awards. Baggett died in early February. This year, Forum CU, is host to both the Operations Professional of the Year Larry Kunkel (COO) and the Technology Executive of the Year SVP/Chief Information Officer Doug True. In addition, the CUES Marketer of the Year resulted in a tie -UTFCU VP Marketing Katy Jett and Langley FCU VP/Chief Marketing Officer Brett Noll. In the Golden Mirror Awards, Spokane Teachers CU Business Development Officer Jackie Wright was named Rookie of the Year and the General Technologies FCU Marketing Team took home the Phil Davies Memorial Best in Show award. In a new category this year – the Golden Shoestring award – CUES recognizes a credit union for a creative marketing campaign on a low budget. CP Federal Credit Union won for its Fading Places? home equity loan campaign created on an approximate budget of $192, playing off the hit home improvement television show Trading Spaces. Staff Programs was the second new CUES category of the evening and Marketing Director Kathy Scarbrough of the $134 million Navigator FCU managed to beat out other larger credit unions for the honor.
