WASHINGTON – CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica has been named a "top association lobbyist" by a Capitol Hill newspaper Mica was one of 37 association lobbyists honored by The Hill in its March 24 issue. Last year, he was named one of the top lobbyists of former congressmen. In determining the top lobbyists of Washington, D.C.'s approximately 25,000, the newspaper uses conversations with members of Congress and their staffs and lobbyists themselves to narrow down the field. The paper also considers lobbyists who have "enjoyed big legislative wins in the past year" and those with significant business before Congress. In the article, The Hill noted the recent passage of the regulatory relief bill in the House. "Just last week, CUNA won a huge victory as (the) House passed the Financial Services Regulatory Relief Act of 2003, which eases regulation on banks and credit unions," the paper said. It also noted Mica's time in Congress. Mica has served as CUNA's president and CEO since 1996. Other lobbyists named to the list represented the banking industry, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, motion picture industry, aerospace, pharmaceuticals and manufacturers.
