VIENNA, Va. – NCUA Vice Chair JoAnn Johnson, a keynote speaker at Navy FCU's 71st Annual Meeting yesterday, applauded the credit union's financial literacy efforts of its members in spite of the "transient lifestyle of the typical military member." Johnson told attendees that "there aren't many financial institutions in the marketplace today that are willing or able to cope" with this situation. "Navy Federal understands the unique needs of their membership and serves as a bridge between their military service and their financial needs." Johnson, who was recently appointed to the Federal Commission on Financial Education and Literacy, recognized that in the last two years, Navy FCU has reached out to more than 220,000 individuals with financial education and counseling sessions. "Navy Federal understands the importance of financial education and better yet, puts it into practice." The Federal Commission on Financial Education and Literacy is made up of 20 federal departments, agencies and commissions. Its objective is to promote financial education and improve the financial literacy of Americans.
