SAN DIEGO - Golf tournaments are rampant in the credit union industry, but it's not often that a former U.S. Open champion participates. At NAFCU's recent CEO Conference in San Diego, NAFCU Services Corporation Preferred Partners hosted a golf tournament in which 1987 U.S. Open Champion Scott Simpson played and put on a clinic for the other players. Simpson played a par three with each foursome. "He was so accommodating. His clinic went over on time. I had to cut it off to keep things moving. Everyone was thrilled with him," said NSC President Keith Nolan. Simpson is probably best known professionally for his dramatic win at the U.S. Open in 1987 where he trailed Tom Watson by one stroke entering the final round, but won by nailing birdies on the 14th, 15th and 16th holes.
