DES MOINES, Iowa-NCUA Vice Chair JoAnn Johnson returned to her home state of Iowa last week to address the Iowa Credit Union League's Legislative Forum where she revealed which regulations NCUA would be reviewing this year. Every year NCUA reviews one-third of its regulations to see if updates are necessary. In all, 16 regulations will come under the microscope of NCUA's Office of General Counsel, Johnson said, including management interlocks, credit union service organizations, leasing, privacy, incidental powers, member business loans, RegFlex, and several others. Johnson told forum attendees, "it is valuable for NCUA to receive comment from credit unions impacted by the regulations we are reviewing this year. The more input we gather from those in the credit union community, the more effective our evaluation will be of the regulatory impact on credit unions." She emphasized that these rules are only under review and changes may not necessarily be made. In addition, Johnson added, the list is not exclusive. Comments on the regulations up for review, which are listed on NCUA's Web site (http://www.ncua.gov/ref/rules_and_regs/rules_and_regs.html), are due by Aug. 1. On Feb. 4, she was scheduled to participate in a member business lending panel discussion at the league's forum. Johnson planned to share opportunities for member business lending and review the updates to NCUA's rule.
