CHULA VISTA, Calif. – North Island Financial Credit Union has dropped the "Financial" from its name and is hitting the islands with its new logo. North Island Credit Union was founded in 1940 as the Naval Air Station San Diego Federal Credit Union and became North Island Federal Credit Union in 1966. In 2000 a state charter conversion resulted in a name change to Financial CU. According to North Island CU Executive Vice President of Member Relations Geri Dillingham, the name has confused consumers and most were still referring to the credit union as North Island Federal. Since the previous logo was designed some 17 years ago and in need of revamping so that it would be consistent with the credit union's Island brand, Dillingham said the time was right to drop the "financial". The new logo incorporates the streamlined name and three traditional elements from the old logo – the seagull, sun and western horizon- were redesigned to include a glowing sunset as a signal of "fair financial weather ahead for all".
