PETERBOROUGH, N.H. – Brookwood Capital, a relatively new firm on the credit union card portfolio brokerage scene, is reporting that, according to its research, 43 credit union portfolios of over $1 million were sold as of September 30, 2003. Six of the 43 had outstanding balances of over $10 million, the firm said. “Total balances sold year-to-date have been approximately $268 million, with the largest portfolio having had balances of slightly more than $30 million,” the firm said. The firm reported that more portfolios of over $1 million were sold in the first three quarters of 2003 than in the entire year of 2002, 43 versus 41, but that on average, the size of the portfolio sold has decreased slightly from this last year to this year (from approximately $6.9 million to $6.2 million). Universally accepted statistics on how many card portfolios sell each year are notoriously hard to come by and several other brokerage firms also keep track of their own numbers.
