ARLINGTON, Va. - A seven-member search committee made up of four NASCUS Regulator Board members and three Council Board members has begun the process of taking applications and evaluating candidates to fill the position of president/CEO of NASCUS. Doug Duerr occupied that position, but he was dismissed on July 29. Marty Martha Fortney, formerly vice president, state regulatory affairs, was named acting president/CEO of NASCUS until a new president/CEO is selected. Named to the Search Committee are: Chairman Jim Forney, superintendent of credit unions, Department of Commerce, Credit Union Division, Iowa; Jerrie Lattimore, administrator, Commerce Department, Credit Union Division, North Carolina; John Smith, director, Division of Credit Unions, Missouri; Linda Jekel, director of credit unions, Washington Division of Credit Unions; Grace Mayo, president/CEO, Telesis Community CU, Chatsworth, Calif.; Jim Blaine, president/CEO, State Employees Credit Union, Raleigh, N.C.; and Michael Litzau, president/CEO, Colorado Central CU. Litzau, who is also the chairman of the NASCUS Credit Union Council, is serving as ex officio for the Search Committee. The Committee is inviting anyone interested in the position to apply by contacting James Forney at: Credit Union Division, Department of Commerce, 200 East Grand, Ste. #370, Des Moines, Iowa 50309. Phone #: (515) 281-6514 or Fax: (515) 281-7595. Email: [email protected]. The Committee has revised the existing job description for the president/CEO's position. To be a qualified candidate, applicants "must be knowledgeable about the NASCUS organization and mission; be a strong advocate for the dual chartering system; understand the challenges facing the state credit union system, and be an effective spokesperson for state regulators and state-chartered credit unions." NASCUS says applications received after December 8 "will not be guaranteed consideration," and it promises that the entire selection process will be conducted "in a confidential manner. Applications will be assured confidentiality in all interactions with the Search Committee and the NASCUS Board."
