LEAGUE CITY, Texas – Remote teller stations have helped Galveston County Federal Credit Union's latest branch provide better service to members while reinforcing a new tech-savvy/personal touch image. A new 4,400 square-foot branch designed and built by St. Louis-based HBE Financial Facilities features five remote teller stations, four drive-up lanes with video screens, a large, circular greeting station and a coffee bar. "We've had a great response," said GCFCU Interim CEO Brad Jackson. "Our members find the remote teller system very convenient and easy to use, once they get familiar with it. Instead of standing in line, they just walk up and do their transaction." In addition to greater member convenience, Jackson says other benefits include improved security for employees and increased efficiency, since a remote teller can handle multiple transactions at one time. "We wanted to establish a strong brand identity with a new image, logo and color scheme, and this new facility is helping us communicate our new image to the community. At first the board had some concerns about abandoning the traditional tellers," said Jackson. "However, we are located in an area where technology is fairly prevalent, and we felt confident that our members would respond favorably to the new system-and they have." Jackson says that credit unions interested in going the remote teller system route should make sure there are greeters and member service representatives in the lobby so that members are reassured by the personal interaction.
