NEW YORK – Nearly 60 New York and New Jersey credit unionmembers, staff and association representatives celebratedInternational Credit Union Week and Day with a bang by gatheringOctober 14, 2003, on the set of the Today show in Manhattan. Theevent, which was organized by the New York State Credit UnionLeague's Metropolitan District, also garnered support from the NewJersey Credit Union League, the NCUA and the National Credit UnionFoundation. “We are thrilled to have New Jersey participate in thiseffort to give credit unions a presence on national TV,” said eventcoordinator Tracy Sussmann, Vice President, Operations,Entertainment Industries FCU. “It's indicative of the truecooperative spirit of credit unions.” Henry Slootmaker, CEO,Peoples First Choice FCU added that, “It's important to make thepublic aware of credit unions – who we are and what we stand for.We had a good crowd, everyone was up early and we showed oursupport.” In addition to drawing camera attention, the credit unioncrowd handed “America's Credit Unions” branded T-shirts to Todayshow personalities Al Roker, Matt Lauer and Ann Curry. Specialguest Deborah Gibson also signed autographs and posed forphotos.
